DESTINATION CANADA RELEASES LATEST VISITOR ECONOMY REPORT

Destination Canada released their latest Visitor Economy Report. As we continue to work towards a post-pandemic recovery for our industry, it is important to understand the data collected in this report.

A key takeaway being the role domestic travel will play in reviving the tourism sector – the report states “If Canadians shift two-thirds of their

planned spend on international leisure travel towards domestic tourism, it will make up for the forecasted $19 billion shortfall currently facing our visitor economy—and help sustain 150,000 jobs.”

Specifically for us in Ontario, the 20% Travel Tax Credit is a key indicator in promoting Ontarians to re-discover their own province. Details will come around the specifics of the credit when it is safe to begin domestic travel again.
