Our pride and joy: Voyageur Multi-Use Trail System
From the northern edge of Algonquin Park to the northern fringes of Ontario’s paved road system you’ll find a multitude of excellent terrain to ride. But the crown jewel of Northeastern Ontario off-road territory? Mattawa’s own Voyageur Multi-Use Trail System, better known as VMUTS – one of North America’s premier trail systems. Nestled between two small mountain ranges and bordered by the Mattawa and Ottawa Rivers, this 300 km mapped and signed trail system is some of the best trail riding you’ll find in the province and offers something for every skill level – including side by sides and UTVs.
Time to get muddy
Whatever you’re riding, from dirt bike to ATV, whether you’re looking for a scenic getaway for the family or a challenging new spot to test your skills, Northeastern Ontario has a trail for you.
With thousands of kilometres to choose from, and more being added each year, we’re a motorsports playground. And most Northeastern municipalities now allow ATVs, Side-by-Sides and UTVs to cross municipal roads – some even allow you to ride the shoulder to get to restaurants and the gas station, and head directly to your accommodation without worrying about parking and trailers. There’s no better time to explore this rugged landscape.
A trail for every kind of adventure
Northeastern Ontario is a BIG place, with a lot of dirt, mud and rock to discover. Each area of our region offers the rider a slightly different geography, scenery and history. Feel like a day trip along meandering river trails with views of the Laurentian Mountains? How about exploring forgotten logging tracks and sparkling lakes in epic boreal forest? Or test your skills on sand, dirt and the bare rock faces of our rugged Canadian Shield. Whatever terrain you’re in the mood for on any given day, we’ve got it.
The opposite of a traffic jam
From the Wasi Lake trails near the northwest edge of Algonquin Park, to the two-day, 400 km loop to Auld Reekie Lodge from Kukagami Lake, to the limitless backcountry trail network around Cochrane – up here, it’s just you and the views. You can ride for days without crossing paths. Or if you’re feeling social, bring the whole gang and take over a cottage resort. Even make new friends – some accommodation operators organize group rides bringing riders together for a day trip and a delicious meal.
Stay awhile
With motorsports-friendly accommodation ranging from housekeeping cabins to full-service hotels and resorts, you won’t have to rough it on your off-road adventure.
Rentals
Can’t bring your own ride? Check out Temiskaming Power Sports in New Liskeard for rental options. And if you need parts, service, gear or a whole new rig, we have ATV dealers in almost every municipality across the region including Chapleau, Elliot Lake, Espanola, Mattawa, North Bay, Bonfield, Powassan, Cochrane, New Liskeard, Kirkland Lake and Timmins.
