Fall is in the air, which means hunting season is here! Bear hunting is already open in most parts of the region, but on Manitoulin Island, they are prepping for a different kind of game – white-tail deer. Hosted in Manitowaning by the Township of Assiginack, the 3rd Annual Manitoulin Deer Show is a one stop shop for hunters to prepare for your season, get the gear you need, and maybe even add a new firearm to your collection!

Taking place this year on August 27th, 2016 from 10 am to 3 pm, here are five reasons why this annual event should be on every hunter’s calendar.

1. Win a New Firearm

In fact, there are chances to win two! Show up at the door, and your name will be automatically entered in the door prize draw. Bring in a deer mount for display, and you could win the second. For every mount you bring in, receive an entry into the draw.

2. Get Outfitted

Missing something for your upcoming hunting season? Chances are, you can find it at the Manitoulin Deer Show. And maybe something you haven’t even realized you’re missing yet!

3. Prizes to Be Won

Besides firearms, there are plenty of prizes to be won at the Show including door prizes, prizes for the best target shooters, and those with the best knowledge of ammunition. Kids can participate in the Kids Wilderness Challenge – arrive at 10 am to register.

4. Are You a Grill Master?

If so, then you’ll want to sign up for the Wild Game Cook-Off, where the winner has a chance to take home a new barbecue! Bring in your favourite dish by noon to be entered in the contest.

5. Hear from Industry Experts

If you have a question, the Deer Show is a great time to ask! Industry and wildlife management experts will be on hand to answer your questions and just chat about hunting. Expect to hear from Rob Argue, Keith Munroe, Ian Anderson and Mike Phillips. See the schedule and topics here.
