Discover Arts and Culture in Northeastern Ontario
FROM CANADA’S BIGGEST MURAL TO POW-POWS ON CANADA’S LARGEST UNCEDED INDIGENOUS RESERVE, WE GO BIG WHEN IT COMES TO THE ARTS
Northeastern Ontario is home to an incredibly vibrant world of arts and culture–from galleries to pow-wows, our region is full of a deep and rich history that is reflected in everything we do.
One of the most historically rich areas of Canada, you’ll find plenty of Indigenous history here, as well as the legacy of the French and English settlers. There’s the history of the fur trade, the railroads, the town once voted Ontario’s “most historic,” as well as everything on offer in our vibrant urban centres.
Our cities are the beating heart of the arts in the North
In our bustling cities like Sudbury, North Bay, Cochrane, and Timmins, you’ll find plenty of arts and culture that will delight and inspire. We have dozens of art galleries showcasing contemporary artists alongside the work of the Group of Seven, museums big and small, live music at iconic venues, innovative locally-sourced cuisine, and a burgeoning craft beer and cocktail scene–along with festivals of all kinds. We’re even home to Canada’s largest mural.
Small town gems in Northeastern Ontario
Our small towns are also full of hidden gems like local art galleries, farm-to-table restaurants, museums, and quirky roadside attractions–including a UFO. Our island communities on Manitoulin are steeped in Indigenous culture so be sure to check out the Great Spirit Trail for a culture experience unique to this part of the world.
Whether you’re looking to soak up some railroad or mining history or want to explore contemporary cuisine, music, and art of the North, we’ve got you covered here in Northeastern Ontario.
